14 sentenced to life in prison for killing a farmer in Sirajganj over land feud

A Sirajganj court has sentenced 14 people, including three of a family, to life imprisonment for murdering a farmer over land dispute three years ago in Ullaparha Upazila.

Additional District and Sessions Judge’s Court on Monday acquitted 13 others since charges against them could not be proven, Additional Public Prosecutor Sirajul Haq said.
The convicts are Fazlul Haque, 48, his wife Morzina Begum, 43, and son Abdul Momin, 21.
Others are Haque’s relative Abdul Quddus, 53, Abu Siddiq, 28, Aminur Rahman, 33, Ashraful Islam, 30, Bisha Mandal, 33, Babar Ali, 50, Aynal Hossain, 28, ‘Bablu’, 48, Haider Ali, 43, ‘Rejaul’, 22, and Md Shamsul, 43.
According to charges, Haque and his men attacked one Nurul Islam of Putia village with sharp weapons on June 27, 2012 over a land dispute. Four persons, including Islam, were injured in the attack.
Islam died at Bogra’s Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital the same night.
The farmer’s son Tofael Ahmmed filed a case over the incident the following day, accusing 31 people.
Police after investigation pressed charges against 27 people in the court.
All the convicts were present at court when the verdict was delivered on Monday.
