Man wanted for robbery, extortion dies during ‘encounter’ in Chittagong

A 30-year-old man has died on Saturday in what the Chittagong police described as an ‘encounter’.

Police say Arman Hazari was accused of robbery and extortion in at least 50 cases and that there were arrest warrants out for him in several of those.

Chandgaon police’s Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Nasir told bdnews24.com Hazari was shot during an ’encounter’ with police early on Saturday  at the port city’s Shamser Parha area.

He was brought into the Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) with bullet wounds around 5:30am.

Doctors declared him dead around 7am, said CMCH police outpost’s SI Pankaj Barua.

“Police raided the Chan Mia Housing Society at Shamser Parha on a tip off. The shooting erupted when police was fired at,” said SI Nasir.

Hazari was found shot after a while when the robbers fled.

Two of his accomplices— ‘Dipu’ and ‘Tufan’— were detained from the spot with some locally-manufactured weapons, said the police officer.

Hazari was accused in 50 cases with different police stations in the port city and there were warrants out for him in 21 cases, he added.
