16 kg gold valued at ‘Tk 80 million’ found in Dhaka airport toilet

Customs officials have seized 16 kilograms of gold from a toilet at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

The gold in bars and ornaments were found wrapped with tissue paper in the toilet at immigration zone around 10:30pm on Friday, Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Director General Moyeenul Khan told bdnews24.com

An official seeking anonymity said the haul included 12 gold bars weighing 1kg each and several chains weighing 4kg in total.

Khan said the estimated market price of the gold was around Tk 80 million.

The customs officials said one was detained from the airport for his suspected ties with the haul.

They did not reveal the identity of the detainee.
