14 Bangladeshi Hajj pilgrims die in Saudi Arabia

Fourteen Bangladeshis, including four women, who went to Saudi Arabia to perform the Hajj, died until Wednesday.

The religious affairs ministry in a bulletin issued on Thursday said 58,365 Bangladeshis reached Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj until Wednesday.
 
Of them, 55,994 went through private agencies and 2,371 under government arrangement.
 
According to the ministry, Madaripur’s Md Hamed Hawlader, 66, died in Medina last Wednesday.
 
The others who died in Mediana are Narsinghdi’s Abdur Rahman Mia, 65, Mosammat Marufa Shahjahan Laila, 37, from Gaibandha, Naogaon’s Mohammad Afzal Hossain, 79, and Dinajpur’s Md Ambar Ali, 52.
 
Those who died in Mecca are Chittagong’s Laila Begum, 72, Dhaka’s Badiul Alam Khan, 62, and Mir Liakat Ali, 61, Jessore’s Mohammad Atiar Rahman, 77, Comilla’s Md Gazi Rahman, 77, and Shafikul Islam, 65.
 
The Hajj is likely to be held on Sep 22, depending on the appearance of the moon.
 
A total of 101,758 Bangladeshis will perform the Hajj this year.
 
The Hajj flights started on Aug 16 and will end on Sep 17. The return flights will be conducted from Sep 28 to Oct 27.
