Six people killed, over 50 injured in Faridpur road accident

Six people have been killed and over 60 others injured after two buses crashed head-on in Faridpur Sadar Upazila.

The accident occurred on the Dhaka-Barisal Highway around 3:30pm on Wednesday at the Upazila’s Jamtola Bazar, said Faridpur Highway Police Assistant Superintendent of Police Belal Hussain.
 
He said four of the dead had been identified as Habib Sheikh, 29, Karun Dutta, 45, ‘Seema’, 35, and Bilkis Begum, 32.
 
The injured were admitted to the Faridpur Medical College and Hospital (FMCH).
 
Eighteen of them were in a critical condition, said hospital Supervisor Dr Ganapati Biswas Shuvo.
 
Belal Hussain said the head-on collision between the buses had left over 100 people with major and minor injuries.
 
Sixty of them were rushed to the FMCH, he said. 
Four of the injured died in the hospital in the afternoon, while two others succumbed to their injuries in the evening.
 
Highway police and Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel had rescued the injured as soon as they learnt of the accident, Hussain added.
 
The district’s Deputy Commissioner Sarafat Ali said his administration would bear the costs of the treatment of the injured.
