“I was about to start for Dhaka University when the three youths surrounded me and hacked me on my throat with a machete,” he told bdnews24.com.

“I managed to push them away and screamed for help. They fled when people rushed in hearing my call.”

Locals then took him to a local hospital. He received two stitches on his throat. He also suffered cuts on his fingers.

Ahmed, who returned home after receiving treatment, said he had no idea why he was attacked.

“They did not snatch anything from me.”

Reached for comment on the incident, Adabor Police Station’s Sub-Inspector Idrisur Rahman told bdnews24.com: “It seems Sabbir was attacked by muggers. Our OC has gone to see him personally.”

Ahmed was yet to lodge any complaint with police, Rahman added.
