Kawser Hossain Khan, 29 and Kamal Hossain Sardar, 29, were produced before Dhaka’s chief Metropolitan Magistrates Court on Friday.

Police sought 10 days to grill the men arrested on Thursday.

Metropolitan Magistrate Emdadul Haque, however, granted five days of interrogation in police custody after hearing the remand plea.

Blogger Niladri Chatterjee Niloy was hacked to death in his east Gorhan home by four men wielding sharp weapons on Aug 7. They had entered his house posing as prospective tenants.

Niloy, who worked in an NGO, had been living with his wife Asha Moni for the past two years in the flat.

The 27-year-old was an activist of the Ganajagaran Mancha, the mass movement demanding the maximum penalty for war criminals and the outlawing of religion-based politics.

The ‘Bangladesh branch’ of al-Qaeda in Indian Sub-continent (AQIS) had claimed responsibility for the murder in an e-mail sent to media outlets from ansar.al.islam.bd@gmail.com, some four hours after the killing.

Niloy was the fourth blogger to have been murdered this year after Avijit Roy, Oyasiqur Rahman Babu and Ananta Bijoy Das.
