Two men, arrested over the incident, have reportedly confessed to the crime.

Locals tried to resolve the matter in exchange for money but the victim did not agree.

The victim was sent to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital on Tuesday morning for forensic tests, Palash Police Station OC Abul Kalam said.

A court has given police two days to interrogate suspects ‘Taher’ and ‘Hamid’, who were arrested on Sunday.

Kalam said the housewife accused 11 men and named eight of them in a case filed on Monday night.

According to case details, the 18-year-old was going to her sister’s home in Ghorhashal on Thursday evening in a rickshaw.

Rickshaw-puller ‘Jahangir’ called 10 others on his mobile phone on the way.

The men took the rickshaw and the woman to a bush near a village and took turns to violate her.

They also recorded the incident on mobile phone.

OC Kalam said local Union Parishad members Iqbal Molla, Jalal Uddin and chief of Awami League’s local unit Ariful Islam, among others, tried to settle the matter fining each of the accused Tk 10,000 in an arbitration.

Molla and Islam admitted to trying to resolve the matter, saying their efforts were in vain.

In a separate development, a suspected paedophile has been arrested in Chittagong on charges of trying to rape a grade-II student.

Saiful Islam, 26, a last year BBS student at Haji Muhammad Mohsin College, lured his neighbour’s girl to his room at Bakalia Thana’s Waijar Parha in the afternoon.

“Neighbours rushed to the girl’s rescue hearing her scream and confined the youth there,” Bakalia Police Station OC Mohammad Mohsin told bdnews24.com.
