Local government ministry suspends Gazipur Mayor MA Mannan
The government has suspended Gazipur City Mayor MA Mannan after he was charged with a criminal offence.

The local government ministry issued the order on Wednesday for the BNP leader who is in jail now.
The circular signed by Assistant Secretary AKM Anisuzzaman says the decision came in keeping with the Local Government (City Corporation) Act, as Mannan has been indicted in a criminal case filed with Joydebpur police.
Earlier, Sylhet City Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury and Rajshahi City Mayor Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul were suspended on similar grounds.
All three are BNP leaders.
The party claims that the government has framed them in ‘false’ cases to remove them from their office.
Mannan, an advisor to the BNP chairperson, was arrested on Feb 11 from his Dhaka home and is in jail since then.
Eight cases have been filed against the former minister. He has secured bail in seven of them.
