Rotary Club of Ramna installs new leadership

The Rotary Club of Ramna on Tuesday formally installed its leaders for 2015-16 although the team took over in early July.

Past district (3281) governors, presidents and immediate past presidents of different Rotary clubs and many celebrated members of society including former diplomats, ministers, businessmen and professionals were present.

The 39th installation ceremony held at Gulshan Club passed the baton to Ambassador Shahed Akhtar who then introduced his 20-strong board of directors including immediate past president Talyea Rehman.

This year’s theme is ‘Be a gift to the world’.

Akhtar had served as Bangladesh ambassador to Spain and Thailand before retiring from foreign service.

Ambassador Akhtar said his decades of experience as a civil servant in public welfare, human development, and conflict resolution will stand him in good stead in his new role.

He asked the Rotarians to do their task to help the club to reach its goal.

Special guest at the ceremony, Rotary International District Governor SAM Shawkat Hossain said there was no greater joy in the world than to make others smile.

Chief guest at the ceremony, BRAC Executive Director Muhammad Musa said Rotary Club provided people with a great deal of opportunity to work together for the public good.

Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, the general secretary of the outgoing committee, presented a report of the social services the club provided.

His successor MA Hashem then introduced the elderly club members and guests to the gathering.

Members of the club Parvin Ahmed Khushi and Barrister Fatema Anwar also spoke.
