The boy’s father Azizur Rahman says he is happy with the investigation that police completed just over one month of the murder.

He told bdnews24.com: “We are happy that police properly investigated and submitted the chargesheet.”

Detective Branch Inspector Suranjit Talukder, also the case investigation officer, submitted the chargesheet at Sylhet’s First Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Sunday afternoon.

The accused are Kamrul Islam, his brothers Ali Haider, Shamim Ahmed and Muhit Alam, local watchman Moyna Mia, Dulal Mia, Ruhul Amin, Taj Uddin Ahmed Badal, Nur Mia, Firoz Mia, Ajmat Ullah, Pavel Ahmed and Ayaj Ali.

Of them, Shamim and Pavel are still on the run.

Muhit’s wife Lipi Begum and brother-in-law Islami Hossain were initially arrested after the murder. But they were excluded from the chargesheet as police did not find any proof of their involvement.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police’s Additional Deputy Commissioner Rahmat Ullah told reporters that Kamrul, who had fled to Saudi Arabia after killing Rajan, was marked as a fugitive in the chargesheet.

Interpol earlier issued a red notice for the man, an expatriate Bangladeshi who lived in Jeddah.

Jeddah police caught him after the Bangladesh embassy sought their help. He is still in their custody.

Kamrul’s repatriation process was complete, Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque said recently.

Rajan’s father Azizur Rahman on Sunday said: “My son’s soul will be in peace only after Kamrul is brought back as soon as possible and tried for the vicious crime.”

On July 8, Rajan was branded a ‘thief’ and tortured to Death with a metal rod at Kumargaon by several youths.

The murderers later posted the video of him being beaten on the internet, triggering outcry across Bangladesh.

The video showed Kamrul was the one who beat Rajan the most.

At the time, it was alleged that Kamrul managed to flee to Saudi Arabia with assistance from police. Azizur was also allegedly harassed.

After inquiry into allegations, a police inspector and the OC of Jalalabad Police Station was suspended and withdrawn, respectively.
