At least 30 students and a guardian, injured in Sunday's attack in Kachua Upazila, have been admitted to a local health facility.

Dr Bijoy Krishna Saha of Kachua Upazila Health Complex said one of the students was seriously injured in his left leg.

Bhuiyara High School's Headmaster Dulal Chandra Dey said several local youths demanded 'donation' for the Mourning Day programme on Friday but he had refused.

"They came to me again on Saturday evening for money but I refused again," he told bdnews24.com. "They assaulted me and another teacher, Fazlur Rahman."

Several students separately said a group of stick-wielding youths attacked them around Sunday noon when they were holding a human chain condemning the attack on their teachers on their school premises.

The injured students are from classes between Grade-IV and Grade-X.

But Juba League's local unit claimed its activists were not involved in the attacks.

Upazila Juba League's Convenor Nazmul Alam Swapan condemned the attack and demanded punishment for the attackers.

Headmaster Dey has filed a case naming eight people over the attacks on Sunday night.

Kachua Police Station OC Md Ibrahim Khalil said they would take legal action against the attackers.

He said they arrested one Mojammel Hossain in connection with the incident.

The report comes at a time when incidents of child abuse are making headlines.

Kachua's Intermediate Education Officer Ahsan Ullah toldbnews24.com he had heard about the incident.

"We've sent police to the spot and the injured are being treated," he said adding the attackers would not be let off the hook.
