Sheikh Hasina pays respect at Bangabandhu’s grave in Tungiparha

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has paid tribute to Bangladesh’s founding father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at his grave in Gopalganj’s Tuingiparha to mark National Mourning Day on Saturday.

Bangabandhu, along with most of his family members were killed by a group of junior army officers on this day in 1975.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her younger sister Sheikh Rehana survived the massacre as they were abroad at that time.

The prime minister flew to Tungiparha after paying tribute at the house in Dhanmondi, where the carnage happened four decades ago.

She also went to the Banani graveyard in Dhaka and paid respect to her mother Fazilatunnesa Mujib, brothers Sheikh Kamal, Sheikh Jamal and Sheikh Russell and other martyrs of Aug 15 assassination.

Hasina placed a wreath at her father’s grave and stood in silence for some time.

She, along with her sister Sheikh Rehana then offered prayers in front of the grave.

Hasina, who heads the Awami League, then placed another wreath at the grave on behalf of the party with its senior leaders.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and Awami League leaders then paid their homage.

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Awami League Presidium Member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, Public Administration Syed Asraful Islam Minister , LGRD Minister Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain, Public Works and Housing Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, Environment and Forest Minister Anwar Hossain Manju, Liberation War affairs Minister AKM Moazzemel Haq, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Advisor to the PMTarique Ahmed Siddique,  Chief Whip of the Parliament ASM Feroze were present in the occassion.

The Cabinet secretary, chiefs of the armed forces, police and RAB also paid respects at the mausoleum.
