The announcement came from the second meeting of the ‘India-Bangladesh Joint Task Force of Fake Currency Notes’ that ended in Dhaka on Thursday, the Indian High Commission said.

The meeting agreed that the Reserve Bank of India and Bangladesh Bank would cooperate with each other to raise awareness and educate people in border areas about the fake notes.

India’s National Investigation Agency’s Inspector General Sanjeev Kumar Singh and Additional Inspector General of police Md Mokhlesur Rahman led their respective sides in the meeting.

They noted that fake currency note was a “menace which hampers the economy of both the countries”.

Both sides discussed the operationalisation of the MoU on prevention and control of fake bills signed in 2011.

They agreed to share information real-time with each other.

They will have contact points at national, state, and district levels for the exchange of information on the detection of fake notes.
