Father files case over son being tortured to death in Khulna

The father of the boy, tortured to death in a motorcycle repair shop in Khulna, has filed a case against three people detained by police for his son’s murder.

Twelve-year-old Rakib Hawladar’s former co-workers inserted a high-pressure air pump nozzle into his rectum and filled the body with air.

The fatal pressure tore apart his intestine and burst his lungs, causing his death.

Locals caught  garage owner ‘Sharif’, 35, his uncle Mintu Mia, 40 and Sharif's mother Beauty Begum, 55.

Khulna Sadar Police OC Sukumar Biswas said the father, Nurul Alam, filed the case on Tuesday morning, accusing the three detained persons.

“The body will be handed over to the family after an autopsy is performed at the Khulna Medical College and Hospital”, the police officer said.

Rakib used to work at a motorcycle repair shop owned by Sharif. He had recently left it to work in another nearby shop, much to his annoyance.

Mia called him to the garage on Monday night while he was passing by, OC Biswas said.

“He stripped the boy naked, pushed a mechanical tyre pumper into his rectum and forced air into the body. Several parts of Rakib’s body, including the abdomen, swelled abnormally,” he said.

When the boy’s condition turned critical, Mia and Sharif tried to pump the air out without success.

They then took the boy to a nearby private clinic.

He was referred to the Khulna Medical College and Hospital when his condition worsened, police said.

Rakib died while being put in an ambulance for being shifted to Dhaka.

“His intestines were torn apart and lungs burst by the abnormally high pressure of air that filled his body. He died from multiple organ failure,” OC Biswas said, quoting the doctors.

The appalling killing happened barely a month after another 12-year-old was tortured to death in Sylhet.

On July 8, Samiul Islam Rajan was beaten by metal rod to death on the flimsy accusation of stealing a rickshaw-van.

The murderers posted the video on a social networking site, triggering Bangladesh-wide outrage.
