Lakshmipur police ASP Nasim Miya said the shootout between the ‘Solaiman’ and ‘Didar’ gangs took place near Jaliakandi’s Nayarhat around 11am on Sunday.

The deceased, Milon Hossain alias Mila, a member of Solaiman’s gang, was from Jaliakandi.

He was a listed criminal with at least 12 cases of extortion, terrorism and burglary against him at various police stations in Lakshmipur and Noakhali, the police offer added.

“The shootout was over area dominance and the distribution of loot. Police found Mila lying with gunshot wounds on his chest when they reached the spot.”

Doctors at the Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital declared him dead when taken there. The body was sent to the morgue.

Police recovered another robber, Maksud, 25, from the Chorshahi area around dawn on Sunday and admitted him to hospital. He, too, had suffered bullet wounds and was found with a share of the loot.

ASP Nasim sees a link between the two incidents.
