But, he asked them on Sunday to be ready to work outside Dhaka instead of lobbying for posts in Dhaka.

The minister was speaking at the inauguration of the World Breastfeeding Week 2015 being observed from Aug 1 to 7 at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium.

The minister said the promotion process was already underway.

“They will be transferred to several medical colleges and district hospitals,” he added.

Nasim asked doctors who are working in Dhaka for a long time to set an example by willingly opting for transfers outside the city.

He said efforts were on to set up Intensive Care Units (ICU) in all district hospitals.

“Rural people will be spared the trouble of coming to Dhaka for ICUs,” he said.

He urged everyone to set up ‘breastfeeding corners’ in every government and private offices, factories, educational institutes and shopping malls on humanitarian grounds.

“You shouldn’t wait for the government to pass order or enact a law,” he added.

He emphasised the need for awareness regarding breastfeeding among parents and urged the people to discourage the feeding of powdered milk.

“We’ll have to make people understand that there is no alternative to breast milk,” he said.

He visited a fair organised to mark the breastfeeding week.
