Magura’s Superintendent of Police AKM Ehsan Ullah told bdnews24.com that they came to know Sen Suman was arrested early Sunday in Dhaka.

The 35-year-old is a vice president of the ruling party’s student front in Magura.

“I have heard that Suman was arrested from Dhaka’s Kalyanpur; we are maintaining contacts with all concerned to confirm the arrest,” the Magura district police chief told bdnews24.com.

Bangladesh Chhatra League’s Magura district unit Organising Secretray Ali Hossain Mukta told bdnews24.com that Suman was arrested from a friend’s house at Dhaka’s Kalyanpur.

The RAB and Detective Police in Dhaka, however, denied  anyone named Suman from Magura was arrested.

Supporters of Magura Juba League activist Kamrul Bhuiyan clashed with former Juba League supporters Mohammad Ali and ‘Ajibor’ on July 23.

Stray bullets had hit Najma Begum, 30, the pregnant wife of Kamrul’s brother, and their neighbour Miraz Hossain during the clash.

Kamrul’s uncle Abdul Momin was killed in the incident.

Doctors in Magura performed surgery on Najma to save her child that night.

The infant was transferred to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) two days later.

A bullet had passed through the right side of the child’s body but did not damage any vital organ, doctors at DMCH said.

The DMCH formed a 10-member medical board to treat the newborn.

On Saturday, doctors said the baby girl was making remarkable recovery.

DMCH’s paediatric surgery chief Ashraful Haque Kajal said that her wounds were healing and the baby was breast feeding more than before.

“We have increased the child’s breast milk consumption rate to 5 millilitres from 2 millilitres. She is taking that easily. Her wounds are also healing,” he said.

“We are doing everything we can for her full recovery,” added Kajal.
