The foreign ministry on Sunday said the visit from Aug 9 to 12 would “further deepen the cordial and cooperative relations” between the countries.

Vietnam is a development success story. Within a quarter of a century, its per capital income rose to over $2,000 by the end of 2014.

It was one of the biggest garment exporters like Bangladesh, but rapidly diversified its export basket.

In 2013, it exported more than $21 billion worth of mobile phones and spare parts, outstripping textiles, mainly due to investments by Korean companies.

Its trade with Bangladesh, however, remained limited at around $400 million.

Both countries work together at the international level including the UN.

The foreign ministry said the president’s visit would also strengthen the ties of “friendship and trust” between the two nations.

He is expected to hold discussions with his counterpart on a whole range of bilateral, regional and international issues of common interest.

Exchange of visits, connectivity, trade and investment, cooperation in the fields of tourism and culture will dominate their talks.

Vietnam’s prime minister, the deputy prime minister, the secretary general of Communist Party, and the chairman of the People’s Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City are expected to meet Abdul Hamid during his stay.

A business delegation is also expected to meet him, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
