Rain triggered by ‘Komen’ may continue until Saturday, says Met office 

The Met office has forecast rains induced by tropical cyclone ‘Komen’ may continue until Saturday in many parts of the country, including Dhaka City.

The cyclone crossed the Chittagong coast early on Friday and has weakened and staying in Noakhali and adjacent areas as a land depression.

Meteorological Department Director Md Shah Alam said, “Many areas are experiencing rain triggered by the land depression. It will continue until Saturday noon.”

He said the depression would move further west-northwest and get weaker. The rainfall might decrease in the next 72 hours, he added.

Maritime ports in Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra were advised to flash local cautionary signal No. 3.

The Met office has asked fishing boats in the northern Bay to stay close to the coast until next instruction.

In the forecast for Saturday, it said light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind was likely to occur at most places in Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, Dhaka, and Sylhet. 

Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions might experience moderately heavy to very heavy falls.

The rain washed away play on the second day of the Mirpur Test on Friday.

Met office’s Alam said there may be stop-start rain on Saturday. “But it may not hamper the game,” he added.
