This is the second such top security level formal talks between both the countries especially after the Burdwan bomb blasts in October last year.

The last BSF-BGB Border Co-ordination Conference was held in Dhaka in December.

“During the six-day talks, both sides will work out fresh strategies to deal with criminal activities of a serious nature,” a senior official in India’s home ministry told bdnews24.com.

The 22-member high-level delegation from Bangladesh will be headed by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General Maj Gen Aziz Ahmed.

On the other hand, a 24-member Indian delegation will be headed by DK Pathak, Director General, Border Security Force (BSF), along with senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and other law enforcement agencies.

This is also the first Director General level conference after the Bangladesh visit by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Dhaka.

A senior BSF official said that activities of Indian insurgent groups based in Bangladesh, prevention of illegal migration, joint efforts for effective implementation of CBMP and confidence building measures are in the agenda of discussion.

The Bangladesh delegation will arrive in New Delhi on Sunday.

The first session of the border coordination conference between the BSF and BGB will begin on Monday.

“During the conference, senior officers of BSF, MHA, MEA, National Investigation Agecny and other sister agencies along with Survey of India are going to take part in bilateral talks,” the official said.

The visiting delegation will also call on Home Minister Rajnath Singh and other senior officers of the ministry.
