The low-lying parts of the hill district headquarters were inundated on Friday following two days of rain, suspending Bandarban’s road links with rest of the country.

The Bandarban-Rangamati route was cut off as the Bailey bridge in Swarnamandir was submerged.

Erosion into Ruma and Thanchhi roads even disrupted motor traffic in the town.

The district, including the town, was also flooded on last Sunday.

Thousands of people were stranded when the town was flooded again on Friday due to nonstop rain from Thursday morning.

The inundated areas of the town included Ujaniparha, Madhyamparha, Islampur, Kashempur, Hafezghona, Balaghata and Swarnamandir.

Deputy Commissioner Md Mizanul Hoque Chowdhury said the administration was prepared to tackle the flood situation.

The primary schools would be used as shelters, he said.

There were several landslides, but no casualties were reported.
