Two others were rescued but three others were still missing after the landslide hit the South Baharchharha area of Cox's Bazar town around 2am, officials said.

The fire service and army are conducting rescue operation at South Baharchharha.

Cox’s Bazar Fire Service Operations Officer Abdul Majid said that the huge chunks of earth buried four houses at the bottom of the hill.

Two bodies were recovered while two were rescued alive until now, he said.

The town’s fire service unit rushed to the spot immediately and were later joined by two other units from Pekua and Chakoria Upazilas.
The army joined the rescue efforts soon after the incident.
“The houses are buried under at least 10 to 12 feet of earth,” fire service official Majid told bdnews24.com.
The dead have been identified as Junu Begum, 28 and her seven-year-old daughter Neeha Moni.
The two who survived are Shah Alam and Nurun Nabi.
Rescuers are still trying to trace three others missing under the debris. They are 45-year-old Shah Alam, his wife Rokeya Akter and their nine-year-old daughter Reena Akter.
Survivor Nabi, who has been taken to the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, told bdnews24.com that the hill caved in around 2am and came down on his house.
He said he was rescued by neighbours.
Cox’s Bazar acting Deputy Commissioner Anupam Saha, Civil Surgeon Kamar Uddin and senior police officials visited the site in the morning.
