Prime Minister Hasina prods ministers to be proactive for quick execution of government decisions

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has prodded her Cabinet members to be proactive to speed up implementation of government decisions.

A report on the implementation of decisions taken by the Cabinet in the last quarter (April-June) of the 2014-2015 fiscal was also tabled at the regular meeting on Monday, Cabinet Secretary Muhammad Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan told journalists. 

He added the prime minister was pleased with the state of affairs. The Cabinet also made four instructions to speed things up further.

“A coordination meeting is held at each ministry every month which discusses Cabinet decisions to be implemented, among other things,” Bhuiyan said. 

In case of steps involving multiple ministries, the initiating ministry will have to coordinate with the other parties and expedite the execution, the secretary added. 

Also, the ministries would have to submit supporting documents from now on when informing the Cabinet Division about implementation of the decisions.

Bhuiyan added Hasina had asked ministers to take part in supervising the implementation of Cabinet decisions along with the secretaries. “So that ministers are more involved, so that they monitor it.”

He added 68 decisions were taken in the 13 Cabinet meetings between Apr 1 and June 30, and 44 of them have been implemented at a rate of 64.71 percent. 

In the timeframe, two policies were approved, nine deals or memorandum of understandings were signed. Three laws were passed and 52 summaries from the ministries were tabled before the Cabinet. 

During the same timeframe last fiscal, 59 decisions were taken, 33 were implemented and 26 were being executed at the rate of 55.93 percent.
