The accidents took place in capital Dhaka, Gazipur, Madaripur, Narayanganj, Barisal, Gopalganj, Nilphamari and Meherpur on Friday, a day after 24 had been killed in mishaps.

In Dhaka, a pedestrian was run over by a bus at Shewrhaparha around 8am.  Victim Saiful Islam, 45, was an executive at a private firm.

Nasrin Akter, 19, died after being run over by a bus she had just got off on the Kurhil flyover early in the morning. Another person was injured in the accident.

Witnesses said the driver of the bus lost control while stopping on the flyover to let Nasrin and others get off.

In the afternoon, a policeman died when a bus hit his motorcycle at Karwan Bazar.

Sohel Rana, 30, was a constable of the Special Branch.

Another policeman on duty died in Meherpur’s Gangni when a microbus ran over him.

In Gazipur, a head-on collision between a human hauler and a covered van killed five, including two women.

Doctors said the condition of five others injured was critical.

The mishap took place on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway near Naojorh.
On Thursday, at least 24 people were killed in road accidents across Bangladesh – eight of them in Gazipur when a DEMU train hit an auto-rickshaw.

Friday’s mishap in Madaripur killed five and injured at least 20.

It took place when a bus collided head-on with a microbus on the Dhaka-Barisal Highway in Kalkini Upazila’s Gopalpur.

In Narayanganj, a bus hit a motorcycle in Signboard area, killing rider Majibur Rahman, 50.

Another motorcycle rider was killed after being hit by a bus at Barisal’s Gauranadi. Two were injured in the accident on the Dhaka-Barisal Highway.

At least eight people were injured when a private car drove into a tea stall at Gauranadi’s Pingulakathi Bazar.

A bus ran over a housewife in Gopalganj’s Singiparha when she was crossing the street.

In Nilphamari, a tractor overturned in College Station, killing the driver Ayub Ali, 27.

Later in the day, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader questioned the sincerity of the accident investigators.

“The investigation committees formed in the aftermath of road crashes don’t seem to be of any use. They are formed casually,” he said.
