Detective Branch have also arrested seven men directly involved in the kidnapping during a raid at Baishakhi Residential Hotel on Friday night, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police spokesperson Monirul Islam on Saturday.

He said police were trying to arrest two more persons involved in the abduction.

Islam said the abducted youth, Mohaiminul Islam Anas, had recently posted an online advertisement to sell a mobile phone.

Anas, the second of his parents' three sons, had passed HSC examinations last year from Mohammadpur School and College and was preparing for university admission tests.

Four abductors whisked Anas away in a microbus from Shekhertek on Wednesday when he went to meet a man interested in buying the phone, Islam said.

He said they took Anas to the hotel and kept him confined in a room on the fourth floor. They also tortured him.

Later, the abductors called Anas' father Fakhrul Islam and demanded Tk 1 million as ransom.

Of them, Kader is a member of the hotel staff. Nasir is the owner of Nasir Telecom, a shop in the next building, and Bappi is his employee.

Nasir is also an agent of bKash, a mobile phone-based cash transaction system. The abductors had made the call to Anas' father from his shop.

Fakhrul Islam told bdnews24.com that he had filed a general diary at Adabor Police Station after Anas went missing. "The abductors have been pressuring me to pay the ransom. But I didn't go outside the law."
