Engineer suspended after three derailments

A railway officer has been suspended after three derailments within a short distance for lack of repair works.

Railway’s Rajshahi Division Chief Engineer Md Mahbubul Haq Bakshi confirmed Sirajganj Railway’s Deputy-Assistant Engineer Ashaf Uddin’s suspension on Saturday.
 
On Friday, Sirajganj Express derailed for the third time in a few days on a two-kilometre stretch between Sirajganj town’s Bazar Station and Raypur Station. 
 
The authorities have finally taken steps to renovate this stretch.
 
Communication along the track will remain suspended for the next 15 days.
 
Sirajganj Express on the Dhaka-Sirajganj route and the local train between Sirajganj and Ishwardi will operate from Raypur station during this period.
 
A high-level team of Western Railway visited the scene on Saturday.
 
“Ashraf Uddin is temporarily suspended for negligence in discharging duties,” Bakshi told journalists during the visit.
 
A three-member committee has been formed to probe the accidents.
 
Western railway’s (Pakshi) Divisional Engineer Manirul Islam Firozi will head the body comprising Rajshahi’s Divisional Transport Officer Shawkat Jamil Mohsin and Divisional Technical Engineer Kamruzzaman.
 
Engineer Bakshi said rainwater has been washing the earth under the sleepers away, causing frequent derailments.
