Baby Maudud’s first death anniversary to be observed on Saturday

The first death anniversary of veteran journalist, writer, and former MP AN Mahfuza Khatun Baby Maudud will be observed on Saturday.

She died of cancer at the age of 66 on July 25 last year.

Baby Maudud was the social affairs editor of bdnews24.com.

The media fraternity is holding a memorial meet at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Friday. 

Born in Kolkata on June 23, 1948, Maudud completed her Master’s in Bangla in 1971.

She was the third child of Justice Abdul Maudud and Hedayet-un-Nisa, and had six brothers and two sisters.

Her formal name was AN Mahfuza Khatun but was better known as Baby Maudud.
Beginning her career as a journalist in 1967, she worked for the BBC, Daily Sangbad, Daily Ittefaq, BSS, and the Weekly Bichitra before joining bdnews24.com.
She had joined the East Pakistan Students’ Union while at the Dhaka University.
She was also a member of the Rokeya Hall Student Council in 1967-68.
In the 1990s, Baby Maudud was a vocal campaigner for the prosecution of suspected war criminals.
She was elected MP in the 9th Parliament on an Awami League ticket from a seat reserved for women.
She served as a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee of the Ministry of Social Welfare.
She was a versatile writer and published several books, mostly for children.
Baby Maudud played an important part in editing ‘Asamapta Atmajibani’ (The Unfinished Memoirs) of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
