At least three people, including two women, have been killed and 20 others injured when a bus fell into a roadside ditch in Sylhet, police say.

The mishap took place at Brahmangram on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway around Thursday noon, Osmani Nagar Police Station OC Morsalin Ahmed said.

He initially said five were killed in the mishap but later revised the casualty to three.

“Two of the bodies were sliced up in half and that initially made us think that five people had been killed,” he told bdnews24.com.

All three died on the spot when the Sylhet-bound bus from Comilla fell into the ditch, Ahmed said quoting locals.

The victims could not be identified immediately.

Firefighters and police are conducting the rescue operation.

The injured have been taken to Osmani Medical College and Hospital.
