One more arrested over Rajan murder taking the count to 12

Police have arrested another man over the brutal murder of teenager Samiul Alam Rajan in Sylhet.

They nabbed Tajuddin Ahmed Badal, 24, son of Sultan Ahmed of Sheikhparha in Kumargaon around 10:15pm on Wednesday.
 
Jalalabad Police Station OC Akter Hossain told bdnews24.com Badal was arrested on the basis of information provided by those already in custody.
 
“Badal helped commit the murder,” he said.
 
The number of arrests made in the case is now 12.
 
Several youths tortured Rajan to death at Kumargaon in Sylhet on July 8, alleging that he was trying to steal rickshaw van. 
 
One of the assailants posted a video of the brutal torture on a social networking site, triggering nationwide outrage.
 
Locals caught and handed Muhit Alam over to police when he was trying to take away Rajan’s body to dump it.
 
Police lodged a case naming four including Alam and his sibling Kamrul Islam over the incident.
 
Kamrul fled to Saudi Arabia after the incident, but was caught in Jeddah. Interpol’s Bangladesh office has issued a red-corner notice for him.
 
Rajan murder trial in fast-track court
 
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said Rajan murder would be tried in a Speedy Trial Tribunal.
 
He said this on Wednesday while visiting Rajan’s family at Bade Ali village under Kandigaon union in Sylhet.
 
The minister consoled Rajan’s parents and gave them Tk 100,000.
 
He said a process had already begun to bring Kamrul Islam back from Saudi Arabia.
 
The minister said Islam would be extradited to Bangladesh as soon as the legal process was completed.
