The ICT-2, headed by Justice Obaidul Hassan, gave the order on Wednesday.

The accused are former IBBL director Sharif Ahmed aka Sharif Hossain, Md Ashraf Hossain, Md Abdul Mannan, Md Abdul Bari, ‘Harun’, and Mohammad Abul Hashem, all from Jamalpur district.

Prosecutor in the case Tapas Kanti Bal told bdnews24.com: “The notices have to be published within a week. If they don’t surrender by this time, the court on Aug 10 will issue an order on the framing of charges.”

Two other accused in the case – Adv Md Shamsul Haq aka Badar Bhai and SM Yusuf Ali – are now in custody.

The special court on Mar 2 had issued arrest warrants for the eight accused. Police produced Haq and Ali before the court the next day.

Razzak gets lawyer

The same tribunal has appointed a lawyer for war crimes accused Abdur Razzak in another case, as he cannot afford hiring a counsel.

Masud Rana is also the lawyer for Razzak’s two cousins – Mohibiur Rahman Barha Mia and Mujibur Rahman Angur Mia – co-accused in the case.

In a hearing on Wednesday, the court asked Razzak why he had no lawyer to represent him. The accused said he had not enough money to hire a lawyer.

The court fixed Aug 9 for the next hearing.

Barha Mia and Angur Mia were present in court.

Barha Mia is a former chairman of the Khagaurha Union Parisad under the Habiganj’s Baniachang and Angur Mia is the incumbent chairman of the union.

Time extended for report on 19 suspects

The ICT-2 has extended the time for the submission of a report on an investigation about 19 suspected war criminals.

It fixed Aug 23 as the new date for the submission of the report.
