Dhaka schoolgirl ‘raped’ in Lalbagh, police arrest one

A schoolgirl from Mirpur has allegedly been raped in Old Dhaka.

Police arrested one on charges of the sexual assault, Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Deputy Commissioner Muntasirul Islam said on Wednesday.
 
Police have taken the victim to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital for medical test.
 
The Grade-9 student, who hails from Barisal, was staying in a boarding house at Mirpur.
 
Police officer Islam said she had gone to Lalbagh’s Swarighat to meet her fiancé on Tuesday morning.
 
They met at a house of her lover’s friend and decided to marry that day.
 
As they left the house, the young man left her waiting at Loharpool while he went to drink water.
 
“Gausia Market’s businessman Saikat Islam Rana and his two friends forced the girl into a house and raped her. They raped her again in another house,” the police offer said.
 
When she met her fiancé again on the street, she told what she had gone through and decided to inform police.
 
After hearing them, a patrol took her to Lalbagh Police Station.
 
Islam said Rana was arrested and police were looking for the other two for their alleged involvement.
 
“The girl said she would file a case,” he added.
