Police file chargesheet against MP son Bakhtiar Alam Rony

Police have filed chargesheet accusing only Bakhtiar Alam Rony, son of MP Pinu Khan, for the Apr 14 murder of two at Eskaton.

The investigating officer, Detective Branch SI Dipak Kumar Das, submitted the chargesheet in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday noon. 

He told bdnews24.com, “37 prosecution witnesses have been identified in the chargesheet. Rony’s driver is the key witness.”

Das said the chargesheet might be placed at the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Haque later in the day.

Auto-rickshaw driver Yakub Ali and rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim died in the indiscriminate firing on Apr 14.
 
Rony is accused of firing from a black Land Cruiser Prado while under the ‘influence of drugs’.
  
The vehicle is registered in his mother Pinu Khan's ’s name. She is MP and general secretary of Mahila Awami League, the ruling party's women front.
 
The vehicle’s driver Imran Fakir, arrested with him, and two of Rony’s friends who were in the SUV with him have already testified.  
 
Rony has been on police remand four times and for 14 days in all since May 31.
 
But he has provided no confessional statement so far.
 
Monowara Begum, mother of the slain Hakim, filed a case with Ramna police against unidentified people on Apr 15.
 
Investigations into the case found Rony’s involvement with the murders.
 
His friend, Kamal Mahmud testified before the court that Rony fired indiscriminately from his licensed pistol.
 
Police’s ballistic test also found that the bullets from Rony’s pistol killed Ali and Hakim.
