Journalist Atiqul Alam to be laid to rest on Wednesday

Veteran journalist Atiqul Alam will be buried on Wednesday after his son, a US expatriate, reaches Bangladesh.

His widow Rowshan Ara Alam told bdnews24.com his Namaz-e-Janaza had been shifted to Wednesday from Tuesday.
 
“His Janaza will be held after Asr prayers at the mosque of Moghbazar Kazi Office alley,” she said.
 
He would be buried at Banani graveyard.
 
She said her son Shawkat Shamim already left the US and is scheduled to reach Bangladesh on Wednesday morning.
 
Reuters Dhaka bureau’s founder chief Atiqul Alam died at his father-in-law’s house in Bogra on Monday.
 
His body was brought to Dhaka the same night and kept at the Combined Military Hospital.
 
Born on June 14, 1934, in Pabna, Alam began his journalism career with Chittagong’s The Eastern Examiner.
 
He worked as the chief of Bangladesh bureau of BBC and Pakistan Times’ Dhaka bureau.
 
He joined Reuters as Dhaka bureau chief following the independence of Bangladesh.
 
In his career, he also worked at, among others, The Guardian, The Christian Science Monitor and International Herald Tribune.
 
Most recently, he was the editor of The Daily Arthaniti Pratidin, which is now defunct.
