Another Sirajganj accident kills five

A bus ran over an autorickshaw killing all five travelling on it at Mulibari area of Sirajganj just past midnight.

The mishap occured a day after 17 people died in a head-on collision of two buses in  the same area.

Helal Uddin, OC of Bangabandhu Bridge (West) police station, said the accident took place around 12:15am on Tuesday.

He said the Chapainawabganj-bound Shyamoli Paribahan bus lost control and ran over the Belkuchi-bound autorickshaw on its wrong side of the road.

Three including the auto-rickshaw driver died on the spot while two other passengers died on the way to the hospital.

The victims were identified as Abdur Razzak (60) , his daughter Rozina Khatun (16) , his daughter-in-law Matata Khatun (24), his son-in-law Anowar Hossain(25), and driver Arman Hossain (30).

The bus also turned turtle injuring eight passengers. However, they were let off after first aid, the OC added. 

Only a day ago, two buses collided head-on in the same area killing 17 people.

On July 16, another bus rammed a motorcycle killing three. A day later, a bus lost control in Baniagati area and fell into a roadside ditch killing five including children.

Around 30 people have died so far on the stretch of the connecting highway to the Bangabandhu Bridge.

Sirajganj’s Superintendent of Police Miraz Ahammed said the drivers become reckless when they get on the highway after crossing the Bangabandhu Bridge.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Billal Hossain said, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader might visit Sirajganj on Tuesday.
