BGB Director General Aziz Ahmed told bdnews24.com they were handed over to Myanmar’s Border Guard Police at the Gumdum boder of Naikhangchhari Upazila after a flag meeting in Cox’s Bazar on Friday morning.

Myanmar authorities also expressed gratitude to Bangladesh during the half-an-hour-long meeting from 9:45am.

An Arakanese militia group had abducted the Myanmar Army’s Deputy Sergeant Naing Tun and Private Khin Lyat a few days ago, a BBC Bangla report had said.

Myanmar’s armed forces had learnt that they had been taken towards the border and requested Bangladesh to take steps.

They were recovered in a joint forces drive from July 5 to 14. The BGB announced the mission’s success in a briefing on July 15.

Bangladesh and Myanmar share a 271-kilometre border, of which nearly 150 kilometres of hilly areas are unguarded.
