The incident took place at the house of Forhad Hossain in the city’s Arhonghata around 3am on Tuesday, local police station’s OC Ameer Toumir Ily said.

Hossain, a blogger, and his wife Farzana Yasmin Lucky are being treated at Khulna Medical College Hospital.

The assailants attacked the couple with sharp weapons.

“It seems like a robbery,” OC Ily said, adding the attackers had looted Tk 60,000 cash, 10 bhoris of gold ornaments and a mobile phone.

But he did not readily count out other possibilities.

“Forhad [Hossain] is a blogger,” he said. “He works for an NGO in Dhaka and came to his village home two days ago.”

Lucky’s brother has filed a robbery case.

After a surgery around noon, Hossain in a Facebook post wrote: “The incident looked like a robbery.”

According to case details, three masked men broke into Hossain’s house at night and asked for key to their closet.

They struck the couple in the hand with sharp weapons after they refused to oblige and fled with the money and jewellery.

Hossain is a contributor to ‘Muktochinta Blog’.

On Tuesday morning, a post on the blog claimed Hossain is a ‘Hafiz’ (one who memorised the Quran) and obtained a Dakhil degree.

He changed track and later studied in the Bangla medium.

Hossain studied psychology at the Dhaka University after passing HSC examination from Khulna BL College.

The post said he wrote against religious superstitions and that his book ‘Nashwar Jiboner Myth’ highlighted the ‘bad effects’ of madrasa and religious education.

It added the Pakistan army nabbed his father on Aug 14, 1975 with assistance from local collaborators.
