KFC, Pizza Hut, Ambala Inn fined for serving unhygienic food and expired products

National Consumer Rights Protection Department has fined 51 fast food shops or restaurants, including well-known brands such as KFC and Pizza Hut, for serving unhygienic food and expired products.

They were slapped with a total fine of Tk 550,500 during inspections in various districts until Monday noon, Afroza Rahman, an assistant director at National Consumer Rights Protection Department, told bdnews24.com.

“KFC’s Dhanmondi outlet was fined Tk 50,000, Pizza Hut Tk 50,000 and Ambala Inn was fined Tk 60,000,” she added.

Assistant Director Iftekharul Alam Rizvi said the ketchup packs supplied by the KFC outlet did not have production and expiry dates.

It was also fined for preserving food in unhygienic conditions, he told bdnews24.com.

Both Pizza Hut and Ambala Inn were fined for failing to meet hygiene standards while making food.

In Dhaka, Pizza Hut’s Dhanmondi outlet’s Manager Jahangir Alam said they were fined for cutting vegetables without wearing hand gloves.

Ambala Inn Reservation Manager Md Nahiduzzaman told bdnews24.com that there was nothing wrong with their food quality and that they were given all-clear by the regulators.

“Several guests didn’t use bins for disposal of waste such as used tissue papers for which we have been fined,” he said.
