Bus crushes Easybike in Tangail, five killed

At least five people, including a woman, have been killed when a bus rammed into a battery-run three-wheeler in Tangail, police say.

Friday morning’s mishap on the Bangabandhu Bridge-Tangail-Dhaka Highway near Shibpur-Kostaparha left another person injured.

The victims were passengers of the Easybike, said Kamaruzzaman Raj, Sergeant at highway police’s Elenga outpost.

He identified the dead as Abdul Aziz, 40, Easybike driver Kibria Hossain Kabir, 28, Mojibur Rahman, 50, his wife Shahnaj Begum, 40, and Zakir Hossain, 35.

“Kabir, Rahman and his wife were killed on the spot when the Easybike collided head-on with the speeding bus of Prantik Paribahan,” the sergeant said, quoting witnesses.

The bus had no passengers.

Aziz died at the Tangail Medical College and Hospital.

Hossain succumbed to his injuries while being taken to Dhaka, said Assistant Sub-Inspector Nurul Bashar of Sadar Model Police Station.
