He was ordered into jail on Wednesday.

On June 25, a handmade bomb explosion inside Yakub’s tin-roof house at Qazi Riaz Uddin Road killed his son Miraz Rahman, 5.

His daughter Niha Akter, 11, has been hospitalised with bomb wounds.

Police had picked up Yakub for primary interrogation, insisting he was not arrested.

Sub-Inspector I Sadek Mia filed a case over the incident on June 26 against unidentified criminals.

The case documents mentioned Yakub as a ‘suspect’.

From the very beginning, police claimed the bomb was inside the house but Yakub’s family members said it was thrown at their house from outside.

The family, however, said it had no dispute with anyone.

After the incident, this bdnews24.com correspondent visited the house at Qazi Riaz Uddin Road.

There is an open place at the south of the room where the bomb went off, where the family used to take bath.

There are two windows at the south of the house and the large window was shut.

The small window has iron bars spaced at every four inches.

A multi-storey building stands some 30 yards southwest from the window, while at some 20-yard distance at southeast lies a two-storey building.

Police’s Senior Assistant Commissioner (Lalbagh Zone) M Fayzur Rahman told bdnews24.com Yakub was held after he was shown ‘suspect’ in the case.

Asked whether Yakub made any confession, he said, “Yakub is not providing any information. But police think the drug addict knows about the bomb.”

Chawkbazar OC Azizul Haque said the court sent Yakub to jail after he was produced before it on Wednesday after three days of interrogation.

Yakub’s wife Sahida Begum was in the room during the incident.

She said suddenly an object dropped on the bed as her son and daughter were playing on it.

“It exploded on the hands of Miraz before I could reach there,” she said.

A police officer present during Yakub’s interrogation told bdnews24.com, on condition of anonymity, “When he was asked about the bomb, Yakub said it was his concern as well.”

The officer quoted Yakub as saying, “You please investigate how the bomb came inside the house.”

Yakub had been unemployed for a year and had run business before.
