The court denied bail plea of Meherun Binte Ferdous Sithi and sent her to jail in a case where she has been accused of instigating the torture of Mukul’s wife Nazneen Akhter, also a journalist.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Amit Kumar Dey put a condition that her husband Raziul Ameen or the plaintiff should become the guarantor of her bail bond.

The court sent her to jail after her husband refused to become the bail-bond guarantor, the court’s General Recording Officer SI Mashiur Rahman said.

On June 28, Gazi TV News Editor Mukul was sent to jail before the end of his one-day remand.

The private television station has sacked him.

His wife Nazneen Akhter is a senior reporter at the Daily Janakantha.

The journalist couple have a child.

Akhter jumped off the fourth floor of her residence in September 2013 on the news that her minor daughter Chandramukhi had died.

She sued Mukul on June 26 under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

She alleged Mukul had been torturing her following his relationship with Sithi.

He did not even take initiative for Chandramukhi’s treatment, she alleged.

Akhter claimed Mukul developed a relationship with the woman when she was undergoing treatment at the hospital for several months after Chandramukhi’s demise.
