District and Sessions Judge SM Solaiman delivered the verdict on Wednesday in the case over the murder of Badal Sardar, 25, of the district’s Bhandaria Upazila.

The convicts are Md Shahid Shikdar, Nizam Shikdar, Dulal Shikdar and Badal Shikdar. Of them, Nizam is still on the run.

Three others who were sentenced to life are Harun Shikdar, Salam Shikdar and Monu Shikdar.

The trio was also fined Tk 15,000 each and would face two more years in prison if they failed to pay the fine, said Public Prosecutor Abdul Mannan Rasul.

He said six others were acquitted as charges against them could not be proved.

Rasul said the convicts hacked college student Badal Sardar to death on Sept 1, 1998.

Badal’s father Jalal Sardar had filed the murder case with Bhandaria police.

The case was stuck for many years due to complications before the plaintiff moved the High Court recently.

The High Court then ordered that the case be sent to the Pirojpur court for a verdict without delay.
