Eight ‘robbers’ arrested, 135 mobile phone sets recovered

Police have nabbed eight men from Dhaka’s Shyampur area and seized 135 mobile phone sets from them.

The eight men confessed to be part of an organised gang of robbers during preliminary interrogation, said police.

Those arrested were identified as Md Jalal, Md Yousuf Howlader, Md Bachchu Sardar, Md Kuddus, Md Nekbar Mia, Md Kamruzzaman, Md Swapan , and Md Kamal Sheikh.

They were arrested from in front of Usef RK Chowdhury School near Postogola intersection of Shyampur on Tuesday night, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam.

Later, police recovered 135 mobile phone sets from a shop, Shah Telecom, at Jatrabarhi’s Samiullah Plaza after interrogating the 'robbers'.

At a press briefing Commissioner Islam said, “They (the arrested) used to break into shops and steal goods in Dhaka and in surrounding areas.”

A similar incident took place in Shyampur few days ago, said the joint commissioner.

The accused were arrested before on charges of theft and robbery, he added.
