The home ministry earlier suspended ten more police men who are accused
of gathering Tk 7.7 million from 230 policemen who were not being promoted despite passing the test a year ago.

DCP (North) Zillur Rahman has been removed temporarily for breaking discipline, misconduct, corruption and damaging police reputation, said AKM Kamrul Ahsan, public relations officer of the Police Headquarters.

The ministry ordered his suspension on Wednesday after the Police Headquarters sent a letter recommending the move, he said.

An investigation has found substantial evidence against the ten policemen – sub-inspectors, nayeks, constables and ration storekeepers.

They were suspended on Tuesday for keeping a ‘bribe fund’, said Barisal Metropolitan Police Commissioner Shaibal Kanti Chowdhury.

“They promised the money givers promotion from ASI to SI, Nayek from ASI and from constable to Nayek, taking Tk 30, 000 to 50, 000 from each.

“That’s how they came to gather around Tk 7.7 million for this illegal fund.”
