The Indian High Commission in Dhaka on Tuesday said New Delhi had given its concurrence to the Bangladesh government’s request to open a deputy high commission in Guwahati.

The development was in line with the joint declaration issued during India Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s June 6-7 visit to Bangladesh when both sides expressed the wish to open more missions.

The Guwahati Deputy High Commission will have consular jurisdiction over the states of Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, the high commission said in a statement.

Currently, Bangladesh has missions in New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Agartala.
