Police claim Md Yusuf, 30, was a professional mugger who they suspect was involved in last week’s shooting and snatching of Tk 100,000 from a bKash agent in Dhaka.

Industrial police’s OC Mizanur Rahman said Tuesday’s incident took place at Begunbarhi when a police team challenged four suspected muggers.

They opened fire on police leading to a skirmish.

Rahman said locals helped apprehend Yusuf, shot in the leg, while one ‘Sumon’, 28, was caught with a machete.

Yusuf died undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation in the afternoon.

Barely four hours before the shootout, a youth was shot dead and another was injured in police firing at Paltan when they were allegedly fleeing after mugging a businessman.
