General Manager of the China Railway Seventh Group (CRSG) Zhu Heng expressed his company’s interest during a meeting with Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader in Beijing.

His ministry in a media statement said on Monday Quader had advised the CRSG to submit proposals.

Bridges Division Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam and Chief Engineer Kabir Ahmed, foreign ministry Director General Ruhul Amin Siddique and Minister at Bangladesh Embassy in Beijing Delwar Hossain were present at the meeting.

Construction of the metro rail from Dhaka’s Uttara to Motijheel will begin in February next year.

Tenders have already been invited for the work for the first three of eight phases.

Another company, China Harbour Engineering Co Ltd’s President Lin Yichong met the minister at his hotel suite, expressing eagerness to build a 160-km expressway from Mirsharai to Cox’s Bazar.

The minister advised him also to submit a proposal.

The statement said the Bridges Division would sign an agreement on Jun 30 with a Chinese government-nominated firm to construct a tunnel beneath the Karnaphuli River.

The Chinese transport minister will be present at the agreement signing ceremony.
