A four-member bench led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha finished hearing the petition filed by the state on Thursday.

Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Khandker Mahbub Hossain represented Mirza Fakhrul. BNP leader, lawyer Maudud Ahmed and SCBA Secretary Mahbub Uddin Khokon accompanied him.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam argued for the state along with Additional Attorney General Momtaz Uddin Fakir.

On Jun 18, the senior BNP leader secured High Court’s interim bail until the chargesheet were submitted to the trial court.

Mirza Fakhrul, who has been in jail since January, is now lodged in the prison cell of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

He was arrested on Jan 6 after emerging from a media briefing at the National Press Conference. Later, the police showed him arrested in the cases of violence involving arson, damage and explosion.

Failing to get bail in the trial court, Mirza Fakhrul’s lawyer moved the High Court.

The BNP leader was shifted from Kashimpur jail to BSMMU’s prison cell on Jun 13 upon the High Court’s order.
