BGB Cox’s Bazar Sector Commander MM Anisur Rahman informed the media of the development after a flag meeting with their Myanmar counterpart at Ghumdum on Friday.

They discussed the return of 37 Bangladeshis rescued inside Myanmar waters while being smuggled to Malaysia.

BGB trooper ‘Biplob’ was injured in the skirmish between the border forces on Wednesday morning.

Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) abducted Nayek ‘Razzak’ from the scene.

After BGB received the smuggling victims, Commander Rahman said, the meeting also discussed Razzak’s return.

“Myanmar’s border security force has agreed to return Razzak as soon as possible through another flag meeting,” he said.

He blamed the skirmish on a ‘misunderstanding’.

State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal had also told media that the incident took place due to ‘misunderstanding’.

According to BGB, its counterpart first opened fire at their engine-run patrol boat suspecting them to be of traffickers. BGB personnel then retaliated.

On Thursday, the foreign ministry summoned Myanmar Ambassador to Bangladesh Myo Myint Than and asked him to immediately return the abducted BGB member.
