He took to the popular microblogging platform even a couple of days before his arrival in Dhaka.

Two of his Twitter handles - @narendramodi and @PMOIndia – together have 19.17 million followers and his tweets are retweeted thousands of times a day.

When he left New Delhi on Saturday morning, he tweeted: “Leaving for Bangladesh. This visit is going to strengthen the bond between our Nations, benefitting people of our countries & our region”.

The third most followed world leader tweeted this again in Bangla as he makes it a point to tweet in other languages especially on his foreign tours.

After his arrival, he wrote: “Hello Bangladesh. I bring with me the affection & goodwill of the people of India”.

He also thanked his counterpart Sheikh Hasina on Twitter both in Bangla and English for the warm reception.

“Thank you PM Sheikh Hasina for the warm welcome. I look forward to a very good visit that will strengthen ties between India & Bangladesh”.

Later, he continued tweeting after every event of the day.

He paid respect to Bangladesh’s founding father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum.

He wrote: “Saluting an icon of democracy, a towering personality & a great friend of India, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman”.

He tweeted what he presented to Hasina: “a hand-woven tapestry from Venkatagiri, Andhra Pradesh woven in Jamdani style to PM Sheikh Hasina”.

As land boundary settlement has been the centrepiece of his visit, he tweeted after the exchange of the instruments for implementing the deal.

“History has been made today. We have resolved the border question that has lingered for years. “We have not merely settled a boundary, we have made our borders more secure & made our people's lives more stable,” he wrote in two tweets.

On the agreements, he wrote: “22 important agreements have been signed today that will give a new dimension to India-Bangladesh ties”.

In every tweet, he added a photograph of the event.

He also posted a photo with Hasina, and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. They met at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Along with Banerjee, he and Hasina flagged off two bus services that connect the capitals of four northeast Indian states through Dhaka.

They boarded a bus before the ceremony.
“Its all smiles on board the buses! PM Hasina, West Bengal CM @MamataOfficial & I met the passengers on board,” Modi tweeted again.
His latest tweet is: “With PM Sheikh Hasina, who has played an outstanding role in strengthening ties between Bangladesh & India”.
